| Cruising the Komodo Island region in comfort and style! Komodo Dancer is a proud member of the Dancer Fleet. Based in Bali, she explores coral walls and fish life in the nutrient-rich waters of the Komodo, Alor & Flores regions. Interesting island cultures, land excursions face to face with the famous Komodo Dragons, colourful marine life and exhilarating drift dives combined with first class onboard service and amenities, a lot to look forward to in just one cruise.
The sparsely populated and still pristine Komodo Islands provide the gateway to a unique dive experience in medium to strong currents with surprisingly cool thermoclines. It is one of the few areas in South East Asia where pelagics can still be found in abundance.
Features Komodo Dancer is a traditionally crafted, motorised two-masted wooden schooner, 30m (100ft) long and 9m (30ft) wide. The Main Deck features a comfortable dining salon and a spacious dive deck with camera table & photo lab. The galley is also located on the Main Deck. Outdoor seafood & meat barbeques on the Bridge Deck are the highlight of every voyage, as are the tantalising desserts after each evening meal. The chef offers international and asian cuisine with a variety of vegetarian options.
Accommodation Komodo Dancer accommodates 16 divers in 2 owners suites and 6 staterooms on 3 spacious decks. All cabins are furnished with teak wood panelling, quality wall decorations and artefacts collected throughout the Indonesian Archipelago.
The two Owners Suites (#1, #8) on the Lido Deck feature a queen bed (may be converted to 2 singles) with picture window. There are a total of 6 double/twin staterooms on the Dolphin Deck. The two slightly larger Deluxe Staterooms (#2, #3) feature queen beds. Twin Staterooms (#4, #5, #6, #7) feature two twin bunk beds per cabin. All passenger cabins are appointed with mirrored wardrobes, bathrobes, hairdryers, toiletries, fresh bath towels daily (or as requested), independent AC units, private head and shower facilities, wash basin. Diving Services Almost all dives onboard Komodo Dancer are carried out from two tender boats, which are specially designed for local conditions. Each 6m (20ft) long & 2.5m (8ft) wide vessel is powered by two 40 hp Yamaha outboards with electric starters, which are driven from the front, leaving most of the interior free for divers and gear.
The tenders also carry their own oxygen unit, VHF radio and have bilge pumps; 1 dive master is assigned to each tender, together with a driver and an assistant. Nitrox courses are conducted onboard, and Nitrox fills are available for Nitrox certified divers. Itineraries Throughout the year Komodo Dancer runs 10 night cruises between Benoa Harbour/Bali and Labuan Bajo/Flores to Komodo or visa versa. From 2013, she will also operate 7 night Komodo cruises starting and ending in Labuan Bajo. There are also special excursions East of Flores to Alor Islands from Maumere/ Flores with roundtrip flights from Bali. Other dive regions visited include Sangeang and the Gili Islands.
Komodo Island & Marine Park Officially declared a World Heritage Site in 1991, the Komodo Marine Park around the islands Rinca and Padar encompasses 132,000 hectares, making it one of the largest protected zones on the planet. These legendary islands are the only habitat where the Komodo Dragons still roam freely. The Komodo Dragons are survivors of prehistoric reptile carnivores which had thrived in tropical Asia some 100 million years ago.Wild eroded mountains and deserted bays with fine pink and white sand beaches dominate these secluded islands.
Komodo Dancer's primary itinerary focuses on diving in Komodo National Park which sits at the heart of the intersection between five major ocean currents, making it one of the most bio-diverse places in the world. The park is home to more than 1,000 species of fish, 385 species of reef building corals, 70 species of sponges, 10 dolphin species, six whale species, giant sea turtles, dugongs, and various species of sharks and rays. The underwater terrain ranges from thrilling vertical walls and pinnacles to tranquil sandy flats. The marine life provides a broad spectrum of experiences from heart-pounding encounters with mantas and other large pelagics down to the total satisfaction of spotting tiny pygmy seahorses. Komodo Dancer also visits to Bima Bay and Sangeang Island where the 'muck diving' rivals that of the Lembeh Strait. Alor Island In addition, Komodo Dancer offers several special 'East of Flores' charters each year that take guests off the beaten path to visit the virgin areas of the Alor Islands. Indonesia's underwater diversity reveals itself again with fantastic black sand diving and a wide assortment of large animals, while beautiful topside scenery creates visually stunning transits between locations.
Sustainable fishing practices and the focus on low impact eco tourism has so far saved the coral reefs around Alor Island from destruction. The water temperatures are warm year-round, and the visibility is excellent, to be enjoyed by just a few divers. Opportunities abound to interact with the friendly locals who are a traditional seafaring people. Alor is one of Indonesia's top spots for tropical scuba diving. We think... Komodo Dancer is the only luxury liveaboard that offers excursions to Komodo National Park year-round. One of the flagships of the Dancer Fleet in Indonesia, the Komodo Dancer crew has extensive experience on these remote dive sites and offers excellent service.
