Location
Beqa Lagoon Resort offers guests the chance to dive and enjoy true Fijian hospitality away from the crowds on a secluded island. No additional flights are needed within Fiji! Beqa Island (pronounced Benga) is surrounded by the vast Beqa Lagoon, located just 8 km (5 miles) south off the main island of Viti Levu. From Nadi International Airport it's a scenic 2.5 hour coastal drive followed by a 1 hour private boat ride from Pacific Harbour directly to the resort beach.

Accommodation
The private bures are spacious and luxurious, with marble bathrooms and decorated with colourful splashes of fabric, Balinese carvings and other indigenous art work. Just steps from the beach, each bure is tropically furnished with rattan, bamboo and works of art. All bures are fully mosquito-screened and air-conditioned; there are indoor seating areas as well as tables and lounge chairs on each private terrace. There are either king beds or 2 single beds, and a rollaway may be added for triple share.

Every Deluxe Beachfront Bure has a huge courtyard with plunge pool and bamboo fence to ensure privacy. The Honeymoon Bure is the only beach bure which features a romantic private outdoor shower. The Deluxe Garden View Bures are the newest addition to the resort, built into beautifully landscaped koi ponds. Wooden bridges lead to their cosy terraces. In addition the resort also offers a 2-bedroom bure that is perfect for families.

Facilities
Beqa Lagoon Resort is a remote island paradise far away from the big resorts and crowds on the busy main island. The beautiful Balinese-style bures (free-standing bungalows) are spread amidst lush vegetation and landscaped water gardens. Guests can relax on the private beach or around the lovely infinity pool, or unwind with a soothing aromatic massage. The bar is close to the pool, open any time and the most popular meeting place at happy hour.
Meals
Laniana, the resort chef, prepares a wide variety of dishes that please even the most discerning palates. The presentation is always beautiful, and the desserts are simply spectacular. All tastes and dietary requirements catered for. Fresh seafood is, of course, a focal point on the menu along with an array of Fijian & International delights. The open air Bure Kalou (dining room) blends beautifully into the surrounding nature, and all meals are served on long tables.
Of course individual settings can always be arranged on request for a special romantic dinner under the stars.
About the island
One of the most striking features of Beqa Island is its seclusion. There are no roads, no towns and only a few isolated villages scattered around the perimeter. Beqa Island is very unspoilt and rich in culture and history. Many of the villagers actually work in the resort and no stay is complete without a visit to one of the villages. Locals also provide cultural and musical entertainment in the evenings. There are kava ceremonies, story-telling, and traditional Fijian cooking lessons. Frequent highlights are the historical dance ceremonies performed by local adults and children. The Beqa Firewalkers are famous throughout Fiji and have toured world-wide, and Sunday gospel singing at church should not be missed.

Tropical flowers bloom everywhere on Beqa, and if you hike a short way up the hillside, you'll find yourself at the base of an impressive waterfall. After cooling off for a while in the pool you can hike further up the path and the top of the trail offers great sunset views over the entire lagoon.

Activities
The lifestyle is slow and quiet in the villages without roads, shops or restaurants. Non-divers can go hiking or bird watching and explore the waterfall or arrange for picnic excursions by boat to nearby small deserted islands. Other water activities offered are sea kayaking and surfing the famous Fiji pipeline at Beqa's Frigate Pass (for expert surfers only). There are some coral bommies just a few fin kicks away from the resort beach, but passionate snorkellers will find better reefs by joining the divers on their daily boat excursions around the lagoon.
Getting to Beqa Island
All international flights into Fiji arrive at Nadi airport on the west coast of Fiji's main island of Viti Levu. A private minibus collects guests from the airport or hotels nearby no later than 2:00pm for the coastal drive south to Pacific Harbour (approx 2.5 hours). Beqa Lagoon Resort is reached before sunset after a 60-minute boat ride to the island. Return flights from Nadi need to be scheduled no earlier than 2:00pm to allow for same day return boat and minibus transfers. Inter-island flights also land at Suva airport, located in the southeast corner of Fiji's main island Viti Levu. Suva, also the gateway for some liveaboards, is much closer to Pacific Harbour, only 30 minutes by car. Overnight hotel rooms near Nadi or Suva airports can easily be arranged if necessary.
We think...
Beqa Lagoon Resort is one of our favourite places in Fiji. The setting is gorgeous and romantic though the atmosphere is casual and fun. We also recommend it for single travellers as well as diver/non-diver couples. The perfect place to unwind; there are no shops or organised night life on the island. Beqa Lagoon is well suited to beginner and intermediate divers.
