Kabaira Beach Hideaway is a family owned and run operation located about one hour drive from Rabaul (Tokua) Airport. Situated right on the waters edge of Attalilikun Bay, the resort offers beachfront accommodation amongst a Papua New Guinea village environment. It is the gateway for diving to untouched reefs with the closest dive only 10 minutes away. The house reef provides great snorkelling or an excellent late afternoon or evening dive.
Features Built in the 1950s the current Guesthouse used to be a Plantation stop-over-house for trips into Rabaul town before there were connecting roads.
Settled amongst a tropical garden setting with its own beachfront, Kabaira Beach Hideaway caters for individuals, families and small groups. This is a place to come and relax and unwind, to take in the ambience. No commercialism here. It truly is a small slice of paradise. Kabaira has a true family atmosphere with all the staff being very friendly, fun and helpful. Meals are provided in the Beach Lounge only meters from the beach. All meals are served buffet style. The menu takes on a Rabaul flavour which is a blend of local, European and Chinese cuisine. Vegetarian meals are provided when requested. The resort has also a bar, however only stock beer (SP) and soft drinks are supplied, so BYO spirits and wines. Tea, coffee, cakes and fresh fruit are always available. Accommodation The rooms have been renovated for guests, however still maintain the rustic impression.
The two rooms in the recently built Bungalow provide a more exclusive stay with private facilities whilst the Guesthouse consists of 4 rooms - 3 twin share and 2 single rooms - with shared bathroom facilities including hot water. The rooms are all fan cooled. However, the dining lounge is air conditioned, for those looking to escape the tropical heat. All the rooms are serviced daily and laundry is also included. Other Activities Snorkel the house reef, bush walk up the back mountain, meet the village locals, visit the local church and school or just relax and enjoy the peace and serenity.
For those who are fascinated by volcanoes, Rabaul is the place to watch the active volcanoes, "Tarvuvur" and "Vulcan". There are guided tours to the craters or you can just watch the craters glowing at night. Rabaul's surrounds are as tropically lush and as dramatic as ever. The whole area boasts scenic views and historical artifacts of WWII. There is so much to see underwater and on land, a few days up to a week can be easily spent in Rabaul.
