The approach from the air already reveals the beauty of the Maldives. Small palm-fringed islands surrounded by coral reefs and turquoise waters. The Maldives come closest to popular conceptions of tropical dream islands. The archipelago of the Maldives is located approximately 360 kilometers south of India and extends over a length of 760 kilometers on both sides of the equator.

The country is covering an area of 90,000 km² divided into nearly 1,200 islands with a land area of only 300 square kilometers, about 200 of these are inhabited. About 90 islands feature very comfortable resorts. The first tourist island of Kurumba was opened only in 1972. The Maldives are 26 attols which are the highest points of a submerged mountain ridge. State religion is Islam. Alcohol is only available only on the tourist islands and some dive cruise ships.
