Lombok, separated only by a narrow strait from Bali, offers the visitor a totally different insight into life style and culture. The vast majority of the population is Muslim, and therefore visitors will find mosques with towering minarets, surrounded by palm trees and tropical vegetation, in almost every village and city.
Lombok is easily accessible from Bali by ferry or plane. The new Lombok International airport is about 40 KM from the coast.
Through the diversity of its people and through endless beaches with sparkling white sand and palm-lined nature, Lombok offers an interesting contrast to the well-known neighbouring island of Bali. Gili Air is the closest neighbouring island to the coast of Lombok and also offers some beautiful beaches. Gili Trawangan is the largest of the islands and is considered a party island, predominantly for younger tourists and backpackers. Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest of the three islands.
Land activities
Lombok is far less developed than Bali. The white sandy beaches of Senggigi in the West, the three offshore corals islands, the Mount Rinjani and the traditional villages make a trip to Lombok all worthwhile.
