Cebu has an international airport and is a great alternative to Manila as gateway into the Philippines. Cebu belongs to the Visayas island group, (the major islands of the Visayas are Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Samar).
The ninth largest island of the Philippines is located between Leyte, Negros and Bohol islands. Cebu was the first island in the Philippines which was colonized by the Spaniards. Today the economy of Cebu is based on the mining industry. The island has the largest copper deposits of Southeast Asia. Other sources of income of the roughly 3 million inhabitants are agriculture, fishery and tourism.
