Sheltered from the Coral Sea by the surrounding islands, Fatboys Resort in Gizo could be considered the perfect hideaway. The resort is situated 100m out atop the crystal clear waters of Mbabanga Island, a 10 minute boat ride from the Gizo airstrip.
Fatboy's Resort offers a completely unique hideaway and is the ultimate tropical beachside reef experience. The bungalows are constructed of traditional leaf and local hardwoods, which are designed to take advantage of the magnificent surroundings. All bungalows are situated on the waters edge with a short stroll to the restaurant and bar located along a private jetty 100m out over the reef.
Fatboy's features 4 private waterfront bungalows (2 family bungalows per duplex), 2 honeymoon bungalows and 1 'Beach House' each with large veranda's capturing the seductive views of Solomon Islands famous crystal clear water and stunning natural scenery. Quality imported furniture and bedding will ensure your stay is better than anywhere in the Western Province.
Fatboy's family bungalows are within a duplex building. Each has it's own master bedroom with queen size bed and a rear bedroom with three single beds. They are completely screened, have netting over each bed, ceiling fans & bathroom's with hot water. Each bungalow has it's own verandah with a hammock and stunning views. There is also a shared verandah with tables/chairs & staircase to the beach.
Fatboy's Beach House has it's own private beach & views over both Kennedy Island & the Vona Vona. It has an upstairs master bedroom with a double bed & ensuite, two verandah's with lounge chairs and a hammock. The next level has a bedroom with a double and a single bed. It also has a lounge room. The whole unit is screened & there are mosquito nets above each bed. There is a bathroom downstairs with hot water.
Fatboy's honeymoon bungalows have an ensuite bathroom with hot water, queen size bed with mosquito netting, screens & ceiling fans. Large over ocean verandahs boast incredible views from the comfort of your hammock.
The resort features a restaurant, cafe and bar. The restaurant is located in quite a unique location, about 100m over the reef on a private jetty. They are open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals are prepared daily using only the freshest local produce and freshly caught seafood. The bar is well stocked including a modest wine list and beer. Enjoy an ice cold beverage after a day's diving, a game of pool, or simply kick back and be mesmerized by the myriad of tropical fish swimming underneath you.
Besides diving, Gizo has a diverse range of water and land based activities. There are a number of beautiful pristine beaches being washed by the tranquil waters which invite you to relax or have a picnic. Kayaking and surfing is also available.
The more you explore the Solomon Islands the more surreal the surroundings become. Dormant volcano's, dense jungle, pristine coral cays, beautiful sandy beaches and uninhabited islands are just some of the natural features this tropical paradise has on offer. Full or half day island trips and cultural trips are available.
Getting to Gizo
Gizo is very accessible by plane from Honiara. Solomon Airlines operates a daily 90 minute flight from the capital. Domestically you can also connect easily by plane several times per week from/to Munda. Internationally you can connect from either Brisbane, Nadi or Port Moresby.
