Solomons PNG Master (formerly known as MV Taka) is a custom designed diving vessel with 12 cabins accommodating up to 20 guests and a crew of 12. The 30m (100ft) long vessel is offering 7 and 10 night excursions in various locations in the Solomon Islands. In PNG, they offer 3 different 10 night trips: New Britain (South & North) and New Hanover. Built in 2004 (re-fitted in 2015), the vessel is a heavy steel, mono hull design which maximizes stability and comfort.
On the upper deck, the Solomons PNG Master features one Premium double cabin with a king bed, and also 5 Classic double/twin cabins, all with ensuite bathrooms and ocean views.
All upper deck cabins have private en-suites. If you look for cabin comfort, make sure you select one of the upper deck cabins. In all these cabin you have individually controlled aircon systems.
PREMIUM DOUBLE (cabin #2)
This is the largest cabin on board. This spacious suite has a king double bed, private sitting area, lots of storage and a full ensuite. This cabin is on the upper deck
CLASSIC (cabins # 1, 3, 4, 5, 6)
These spacious cabins feature a double bed with a twin bunk above (note: cabin 1 is fitted with two twin bunks only) and are suited towards a couple or buddy team. Each cabin has a small seating area, ample storage and a full ensuite bathroom. These cabins are on the upper deck.
Below deck are the more basic cabins. There are 7 standard twin share cabins which use 5 shared bathroom facilities (showers/toilet) located on the dive deck and available for divers in these cabins.
STANDARD (cabins 9A, 9B, 10A, 10B, 11, 12)
These cabins are at the lower deck, have twin bunks and are best suited towards the budget travellers. The cabins have centrally controlled aircon units. There are 5 shared bathrooms on the dive deck, equipped with toilet, sink and shower.
Inside Taka has a huge lounge and dining area with DVDs, large TVs and a dedicated camera area for our photographer guests. There is plenty of space to spend time sharing your photos, reading a book from the library or just hanging out in air conditioned comfort.
Up top they have a large sun deck complete with loungers where you can catch some sun, there is plenty of space here too. On the second deck, they have an expansive covered seating area where you can sit back and relax in the shade.
The dive deck has 5 toilets and freshwater showers. There are freshwater rinse bins for equipment. Each station has ample storage for your equipment above and below your station. Two ladders access the dive platform provide easy access to and from the water. Dives are either done directly off the dive deck or with a tender. Two large tenders are available for drop offs and pick ups. The photography facilities on board are excellent.
The crew requires all divers to carry a noise maker and a safety sausage. If you do not have these items, they can provide them on board at no charge. They require night divers to dive with a torch (available for rent) and a tank marker light (provided at no charge). They even provide Nautilus Lifelines to all of our guests at no charge. Nitrox is available at extra charge. 10L steel tanks are provided complimentary. 12L aluminium tanks available at a surcharge. Wet suits are not available for rent.
