Beautiful Palawan is nestled between Mindoro Island and North Borneo. The 400-kilometer (250 miles) long island of Palawan in south western Philippines has vast tropical rain forests and is considered the largest unspoiled natural area of the country. Palawan with its myriad of small islands with sandy beaches and rugged limestone cliffs and the surrounding tropical landscape is one of the most beautiful areas in the Philippines.
Not to be missed is a visit to the world's longest underground river, to be found in Sabang. Palawan probably has the most protected areas than in the Philippines. For example El Nido Marine Reserve on the northern coastline, is worth a dive holiday. El Nido are is also known for its edible birds’ nests and limestone cliffs. In the middle of the Sulu Sea lie the Tubbataha reefs, two coral atolls recently named as a World Heritage Site for its highly diverse marine life.
Apart from the main island there are more than 1,000 islands in the province of Palawan, the largest of which are located in the north, the Calamian group with the islands Busuanga, Cuilion and Coron.
